I know PayDay loans are bad, they have high loan fees etc, but thing is we have no where else to turn right now because my husband lost his job over a month ago and hasn’t been able to find a new one and I just got hired a week ago. I have a guaranteed paycheck coming in on the 16th, thing is we have many bills due before then and some can’t wait. I had a charge on an account with Lowes. My husband lost his job three years ago, and it even got to the point where we used up all of our savings and had our electricity shut off during the winter. Thankfully in the past few months my husband got a raise and we are doing ok now. I noticed on my credit score the charged off account with Lowes. I called the number and it took me to Portfolio Recovery Associates and they are offering a settlement. It is a $100 more than what I originally owe because of interest at 8% that has been accumulating. Is this the best way to start cleaning up my mess? Will they be able to sue me even after I’ve paid the settlement in full? I just want this taken care of. We are good people who just got stuck in a hairy situation but I don’t want to get scammed. I do realize these people buy the debts very cheap and make a profit but if it will get me started in the right direction then so be it. How can I get financial aid to help with my living expenses?
First I go to Devry, and I am sort of unemployed. I do contract work, so there is no guarantee for my income each month. My EFC was 0, for the life of me I can not understand why I do not qualify for Perkins or SEOG? Right now they have me getting a $500 refund, ARE YOU SERIOUS? I am currently trying to sell my house, but the introductory rate on my mortgage doesn’t expire until 31st of dec 2009. If I were to sell my house in September (when I am moving away), I could incur a 3000 early repayment fee, as stated within the terms. I could leave the house empty until December and sell when the introductory rate ends but am reluctant to do this because I feel that house prices may have fallen even more by then. I think the cheapest option would be to sell in September, and continue paying 3 months mortgage at 600 a month, therefore it would only cost me 1800. The car is far less than 15% of my income,( 5 yr loan) and the secure card has been paid on time or early, with at least 2x the minimum payment paid at a time.
